Snøhetta is designing the Royal Diriyah Opera House in Saudi Arabia, drawing inspiration from the surrounding desert landscape, local culture, and Najdi building traditions. Scheduled to open in 2028, the 46,000-square-metre venue will host around 3,500 people across four spaces, including a 2,000-seat theatre, two smaller multipurpose theatres, and a 450-seat rooftop amphitheatre.
The design features interconnected buildings with open, shaded passages and green gardens, offering respite from the sun. These public spaces aim to enhance both cultural and recreational experiences for visitors and the wider community, seamlessly blending with the historic Diriyah landscape.
